A pair of Napoleon III gilt bronze and carrera marble cassolettes. The marble tops with pinatum finials inverting to a candle sconce, above an ovoid body hung with floral swags and rams head masks, standing on circular plinths with beaded decoration. Retaining the original gilding.

A mid 19th century Grand Tour, French, Inkwell in the form of Napoleon’s tomb. The patinated bronze tomb with removable lid revealing a sand sifter, knib holder & porcelain inkpot. The interior with concealed effigy of Napoleon. The base with hairy paw feet and rectangular sienna marble plinth. Crack to inkpot, one knib holder missing.

A pair of Napoleon III, French, gilt bronze & porcelain mounted candlesticks. The kneeling figure of a winged cherub each holding a single sconce, retaining drip pans & flame snuffers, supported by a beaded circular plinth base with floral painted porcelain panels, the scroll feet hung with gilt chains. The whole supported by the original carved giltwood circular bases. Superb matt & burnished gilding.

A Napoleon III gilt & patinated bronze twin handled vase of large proportions. The oval gilt lined vase with beaded rim above a continuous frieze of frolicking putti, flanked by twin acanthus cast handles, and standing on a flared socle with shaped plinth base. Regilded. Liner with repair to rim.

Attributed to François Linke (1855-1946)

A late 19th century mahogany & gilt bronze mounted table vitrine. The rising circular top with bevelled glazed centre opening to the original red velvet lined interior with four curved glazed sides, the four supports mounted with musical instruments above a platform stretcher and hipped cabriole legs with acanthus sabots.

A late 19th century, French, patinated bronze figure of the winged Mercury based on the model in the Louvre by Giambologna. Supported by a turned sienna marble plinth with cast bronze frieze of cavorting cherubs, the figure of Mercury holding a caduceus in hand, his left foot supported by the wind of Zephyrus. Dark green patination.

A late 19th century French mantel clock in the Louis XVI style. The Circular enamel dial painted with floral swags and arabic numerals by L Gaudet, inset a gilt barrel hung with garlands of flowers and flanked by Cupid & Psyche taking an arrow from a flaming quiver finial. The shaped rouge griotte marble base inset with gilt panels standing on toupie feet. The eight day movement with Brocot suspension rack striking the hour & half hour on a bell. Case and movement stamped 2099. The mounts stamped ‘MB’ for Blaise and Théodore Millet Active 1853-1918.

Founded in Paris by Theodore Millet in 1853, the furniture firm Maison Millet’s production was of the highest quality. The firm won several awards in the world exhibitions in London and Paris, such as the gold medal in the 1889 Paris Exposition Universelle, a Grand Prix in 1900, three further “diplomes d’honneur” and four “médailles d’or” for the quality of the furniture it produced. Millet closely collaborated with Leon Message, who worked exclusively for him, Linke, Zwiener, and Roux et Brunet. The quality of Millet’s work is comparable with Sormani, Dasson, Beurdeley, Krieger and Durand.
